FIG.
1-2-3
Greased Laminar Rings seal better than when just dry. The Laminar Sealing Ring
is to be greased more especially when sealing against splash water, dirt or
scale. It is difficult to replenish grease from their bearing side because the
grease will only move across the Laminar Rings after sometime under pressure.
Therefore, it is more expediant to provide grease relief bores (ideally 4 holes,
3 to5 mm in diameter, spread around the circumference) to provide the rings
with grease through the bottom of the groove.
Grooves should be moderately greased before installing the rings. |

FIG.

Shows another viable lubrication method: the grooves are drilled from the outside.
Grease can enter alongside the rings ( and travel across the inside of the rings)
and escape again to the outside. Since the small bores and grooves remain filled
with grease, contaminants cannot enter. This lubrication system has been used
successfully in bearing seal arrangements for contunuous casters. |

Please
remember that all greases have a limited life span, which depends upon temperatures,
speeds and environmental influences. Under especially stringent application
conditions, periodic re-lubrication is recommended. Various factors need to
be considered for the selection of grease for bearings and seals: please refer
to the bearing manufacturers' recommendations. |
