Metals form an extremely diverse group of engineering materials. Metal and metal alloys are characterized by their high strength and rigidity versus other materials. Listed here are some of the most common metals used in industrial applications.

Carbon Steel
Carbon steel is the most commonly used metal for general use applications. Carbon steel is an inexpensive material with excellent mechanical properties.

Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is a special grade of steel used for specific engineering applications. Stainless steel is used in applications where the resistance to high humidity environments or specific chemical attack is required.

Brass
Brass is an alloy composed of copper and zinc. It is characteristically soft by comparison to other metals. It is found in applications that are in water environments or that use water as the primary lubricant.

Aluminum
Aluminum is distinguished from other metals by its relatively low density and resistance to corrosion in ambient environmental conditions. Due to its low density, aluminum is the preferred metal of choice when components of a specific size must also be light weight.
