Materials > Urethanes & Plastics

Plastic products are used in countless applications in almost every industry. OEM International offers different styles of seals and wipers that use urethanes and PTFE as the primary sealing element. Also, OEM International has many custom manufactured parts that are manufactured from various plastic materials.

Urethanes (AU, EU)
Urethanes, particularly polyurethane, is a material that bridges the gap between soft rubber materials and brittle plastics. Advantages of the urethane materials include:

  • Excellent mechanical strength properties
  • Good resistance to wear
  • Good flexibility
  • A wide range of hardness available
  • Resistance to environmental attacks such as ozone and weathering

Nylon (Polyamide)
Nylon is an excellent general use plastic. It is found in many applications including backup rings, bushings and many custom molded parts. To address specific application concerns, nylon can be glass filled to increase part strength.

PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene)
PTFE materials are widely known for their low friction capabilities and chemical inertness in almost all environments. PTFE used in pharmaceutical or food handling industries is typically virgin PTFE. For industrial applications, PTFE can be filled with graphite, brass or other materials to enhance a desired property of the end product.

Phenolics are valued for their excellent thermal stability to temperatures around 300°F. Although this class of plastics is hard wearing, it is brittle and should be handled with care.
